From Ghostbuster to Crimebuster, Dan Akroyd Sworn In

Posted: Updated:

Actor Dan Akroyd has been sworn in as a reserve sheriff's deputy in the Hinds County, Mississippi Sheriff's department.

Akroyd submitted a letter to join the unit and Sheriff Tyrone Lewis said he thought it would be a great opportunity for the department calling Akroyd "very qualified."

This is not Akroyd's first law enforcement experience, as he was in law enforcement before becoming an actor

Akroyd is filming "Get On Up," about singer James Brown in the area.   The movie is expected to premiere on October 17th.

"He kind of puts Hinds County on the map,"  Sheriff Lewis said.  Akroyd called the badge "a great honor," and said it gave him a good reason to re-visit the state of Mississippi.

The Clarion-Ledger has video of the swearing in ceremony.
