Winter weather threat poses problems for schools

Posted: Updated:
HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -

School districts in south metro Atlanta are deciding if they'll close in anticipation of expected snow this week.

Concerns about roadways are a top priority for officials debating closures.

In Henry County, road conditions are a major part of the decision. Some 60 percent of students in that country ride buses. The few snow plows available will hit the major roads first and roads most schools are on will not be cleared until later. That's another factor the district must consider, because forecasters expect the storm to begin during the school day.

At this point, Henry County is right on the line, between the heavy snow and just an inch or two. Not knowing how bad the storm will be here will also influence the district's decision.
