Greek yogurt's popularity soars

Posted: Updated:
Like most health fads, people tend to jump on the bandwagon in the hopes of reaping all the presumed benefits of the new 'it' food.

In the case of the Greek yogurt craze, suppliers are responding to the demand big time.

The thicker, more bitter and protein packed yogurt is more easily found these days on store shelves than traditional style yogurt.

According to the Wall Street Journal, more than one-third of the yogurt in a grocery store is now Greek.

Yogurt consumption in the U.S. has boomed, adds the website citing Americans' changing eating habits including fewer sit-down meals and more snacks on the go.

Some of the most popular brands of Greek yogurt include Chobani and Fage. Even the traditional yogurt makers like Danone and Stonyfield have rolled out their versions of Greek yogurt.
