Truck slams into house in Bronx

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Emergency crews were keeping people away from a house in the University Heights section of The Bronx on Tuesday after deeming it unstable.

A concrete pumping truck slammed into the three-story home at 1970 Cedar Avenue at about 6:20 p.m. on Monday.

The driver of the truck apparently lost control of the vehicle and crashed into multiple cars before smashing through the house.

The NYPD says the driver was left trapped in the truck where he died of his injuries.

Five others, including a fire-fighter were injured. Four of the victims were inside a vehicle struck by the out-of-control truck, said police.

All were expected to survive.

A woman told FOX 5 News that her sister and young children were in the front living room of the house and ran for their lives.

The front portion of the truck remained inside the house on Tuesday.

Rescue workers were on the scene through-out the night trying to stabilize the building.

An investigation into the crash was underway.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.

Heavy thunderstorms swept through the tri-state on Sunday causing flash floods and lightning strikes that injured 3 people. The three men were struck at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Sunday afternoon and were being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile, various Labor Day weekend celebrations were interrupted, delayed and even canceled as the U.S. Open tennis tournament had to be postponed and the Electric Zoo musical festival on Randall's Island had to be prematurely shut down.
