ALEXANDRIA, Va. -

Police and U.S. Postal Inspectors are looking for help from the public to find three men who robbed a mail carrier.

It happened around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of North Fayette Street.

Police say the three men wore black ski masks, blue jeans and black coats. One of them brandished a gun. They might be teenagers.

Police say they stole the man's smartphone, wallet and some mail. The day after, there were visible patrols by postal police.

Area residents said they were surprised because they had not had problems with crime. One mailman who spoke to FOX 5 said the letter carriers attend safety classes and are told to be careful. But he said you never expect anything like this to happen to you.

Anyone in the delivery area who is missing expected mail or anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact Postal Inspectors at 877-876-2455. A reward is being offered of up to $25,000.
