Weekend Roundup: Chef Michael Mina, Lobos Food Truck, Wildlife Learning Center

Posted: Updated:

FOX 11's food and fun expert Mar Yvette searches the Los Angeles area for some of the best places to eat, drink, shop and have a great time. Featured guests then swarm our FOX Television Center parking lot every Thursday morning between 9am and 10am on Good Day LA, creating a big party as one jam-packed segment known as the Weekend Roundup!

Here's more information about the guests we featured:

Chef Michael Mina

You can make good on your New Year resolution to eat healthfully with the help of James Beard award-winning celebrity chef, restaurateur and cookbook author, Chef Michael Mina who's showing us small plate meals that you can incorporate into your diet. For example, the scallop ceviche on the menu at Michael Mina's Stonehill Tavern at The St. Regis Monarch Beach is a great source of lean protein and is easy to recreate at home with bright peppers, cilantro, lime juice and jalapeño. Stonehill Tavern uses only locally sourced seasonal produce found at regional farms in Southern California and is located in one of the most gorgeous ocean view restaurants located just 45 minutes from Los Angeles. Visit www.stregismb.com for more info and reservations.

Lobos Food Truck

Their name means "wolf" in Spanish and the Lobos Truck will definitely have you hungry like the wolf for their unique kind of comfort food. Think incredible burgers (including The Portlander made with a handcrafted veggie patty and tempe bacon), a mac & cheese bar and their own original creation of "wachos" -- nachos made with waffle fries! You can catch this truck all around the streets of LA and on Sunday, January 19 at the Sunday Farmers Market at Wellington Square in LA's historic West Adams district. A portion of the food truck sales will go back to the Wellington Square Farmers Market.

Wildlife Learning Center

Wild thing, I think I love you! The Wildlife Learning Center is a non-profit animal sanctuary in Sylmar, located just 30 minutes from LA. It's where you can see more than 50 different species of rescued and zoo-born wild animals including those featured on today's show -- Kingston the squirrel monkey, Nanuk the Arctic fox, Slade the serval wild cat and the happy couple of macaws named Catcher and Jake. The center is open seven days a week and even has an Animal Sponsorship program where your donation goes towards the animal's care, feeding, environmental enrichment and habitat maintenance. Anyone can sponsor an animal and they make a wonderful gift for family and friends! As a thank you, you will receive three free up-close and personal visits with your animal. Visit www.wildlifelearningcenter.com for more info.
