SUITLAND, Md. -

Four men are under arrests after they robbed an armored truck and fired shots at a car that tailed them as they tried to make a getaway.

It was a wild scene in a strip mall parking lot along Allentown Road across from Joint Base Andrews.

Police say the robbery suspects had guns and overpowered the armored truck guards outside a Checkers restaurant.

The suspects made off with bags of money, jumped into a green Jeep Cherokee and sped away. Police say that is when a Good Samaritan stepped in.

He is a Marine. He and his brother climbed into their red pickup truck and followed the robbers until the suspects started firing at them, leaving bullet holes in their front windshield and a side window. The Marine suffered minor injuries from flying glass.

He pulled off the chase and let police take over. The suspects bailed out of their vehicle around 34th and M Streets in Southeast D.C.

Police recovered the stolen money.

Management at Checkers says the Good Samaritan is welcome anytime to some free meals.
