How to avoid weight loss scams

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

We're two weeks into our New Year's Resolutions to lose weight and some of us have already thrown in the towel.

The FOX Medical Team's Beth Galvin wants to share some red flags you may experience when it comes to weight loss scams.

Although we all want a quick fix, there is really no such thing.

Beth sat down with Dr. Darria Long-Gillespie for some tips on how to spot weight loss scam.

  • If it promises you'll lose more than 2 lbs. per week.
  • Taking a pill or using a product and you don't know what's in it.
  • Steering clear of programs that promise everyone results.

Dr. Long-Gillespie says it's a good idea to go online and do a little research to find out which plan or program fits you and what you want to achieve. She said pay attention to words like "miraculous" or "never before published."

Be wary of any plan that claims over the counter supplements, detoxes, cleanses or even colonics will help you lose weight. Same thing with companies that claim their products are the only way to slim you down.

If your intuition tells you something isn't right. Listen to it.
