Teen chases down, tackles DUI suspect

DUNWOODY, Ga. -

A teenage runner chased down a drunk driving suspect who was allegedly trying to flee the scene of an accident in Dunwoody.

The alleged drunk driver narrowly missed two cars on Dunwoody Club Drive and then slammed through a street sign and trees. The driver then took off running, police said.

Brandon Morales and his mother were in one of the cars almost struck by the driver.

"I was trying to protect my mom because he almost hit us and she was scared," said Morales. "She said, ‘Brandon go get him.'"

Morales, 19, chased the driver for about 15 minutes across roads and through neighborhoods.  He finally caught up and held the driver, 25-year-old Daniel Hoover, until police arrived.

Police charged Hover with driving under the influence and hit-and-run. Hoover told Gwinnett County police that he had played football for Florida State and that he was an undefeated boxer with a 6-0 record. Still, he was no match for Morales.

"I ran cross country for five years, I ran my freshman year in college," Morales said. "I was kind of really proud of myself."

FOX 5 could not verify if Hoover played college football or is a boxer. He was previously arrested for hit-and-run a few months ago in Dunwoody.
