Soldier surprises children at Cherokee County schools

Posted: Updated:
CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -

It was emotional homecoming as a U.S. Army captain surprised his children at school on Monday.

It had been nearly a year since Lexi Adams saw her father, Captain Robert Abrams, who had been working on a base in Afghanistan near the Iranian border.

Abrams got the Cherokee County school district involved to help plan the surprise. While Lexi was reading a patriotic poem, her father walked into the class and gave her a big hug.

The whole family then went to Lexi's brother's school to give him a surprise as well. The two children got the day off school to spend some quality time with their dad.

Abrams also has some time off and he plans to catch up on all the holidays and birthdays he has missed.
