NWS confirms EF-0 tornado in Cherokee County

WALESKA, Ga. -

A weak tornado touched down Saturday morning in Cherokee County according to the National Weather Service.

NWS meteorologists performed a severe weather assessment of the area on Sunday. They determined an EF-0 touched down just northeast of Waleska around 7:30 a.m. Saturday. The tornado packed speeds of about 80 miles per hour.

The tornado skipped along the ground causing sporadic damage for about three miles as it traveled northeast. Officials believe the tornado was only about 10 yards wide at its largest.

The tornado caused damage to a fence and toppled trees in its path.
