NJ Teacher Turns 100 Years Old, May Be Nation's Oldest

Posted: Updated:

They say you're never too old to learn – or teach. A beloved New Jersey teacher is hitting the century mark. And her students are celebrating!

Agnes Zhelesnik is believed to be America's oldest working teacher.

Known by her students as "Granny," she received the royal treatment Friday at the Sundance School in North Plainfield as students performed her favorite musical, "Little Mermaid Junior," for her birthday.

Zhelesnik is a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a chef. She spent most of her life as a homemaker.

When she was 81, she joined the Sundance School and has since been the full-time, 35-hour-a-week home economics teacher, providing students from pre-school to fifth grade cooking and sewing lessons.

FOX's Matt Alvarez spoke with Zhelesnik and her students and has more details in this video report.
