13-year-old boy accused in armed robbery, burglary

Posted: Updated:

A 13-year-old Rockmart boy is facing felony charges after allegedly breaking into a home and holding two convenience store clerks at gunpoint.

Authorities said the boy broke into a neighbor's home on Thursday and stole several items, including a handgun and a Jeep. The Jeep ran out of gas or broke down on Highway 27, police said.

The teen then allegedly made it to the Food Mart Plaza and sat outside for several minutes. He then allegedly walked in the store with a pistol and demanded a car. Employees said the teen never asked for money and only wanted a vehicle to get to Tennessee.

After stealing an employee's car, police said the boy wrecked it and then was quickly arrested.

Authorities have not released his name due to his age. He faces numerous charges, including armed robbery, burglary and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
