Bridgegate: Who's who?

This started as a regional transit issue and has snowballed into a national political scandal. There are a complicated cast of characters involved. We've singled out six.

1. Bridget Anne Kelly

She is now the former deputy chief of staff to Gov. Christie, a core member of the administration responsible for intergovernmental affairs. She sent an email to an ally at the Port Authority saying "time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee." Christie said he fired her because she was not honest about her involvement.

"I am heartbroken that someone who i permitted to be in that circle of trust for the last five years betrayed my trust," Christie said.

2. David Wildstein

He was on the other end of that email. He was appointed by the governor to his job at the Port Authority. Wildstein's response was simply "got it." Wildstein refused to answer questions about the lane closure to lawmakers and has since resigned from the Port Authority. The governor repeatedly insisted he had no knowledge of the plans.

"There's no justification for that behavior," Christie said. "There's no justification for ever lying to a governor or a person in authority in this government."

3. Bill Baroni

He was the the deputy executive director at the Port Authority and was considered Christie's top man at the agency. He has maintained this was all a traffic study and has also resigned.

4. Bill Stepien

He was the governor's campaign manager for the last five years and a close confidant. He, too, is entangled in the email chain, seemingly supporting the gridlock as political payback. Stepien was in line to be the next chair of the Republican State Committee. But Christie said Thursday that won't happen.

"If I cannot trust someone's judgment, I cannot ask others to do so and I would not place him at the head of my political operation because of the lack of judgment that was shown in the e-mails that were revealed yesterday," Christie said.

5. Patrick Foye

He is the executive director of the Port Authority appointed by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. He testified under oath he had no idea about any traffic study.

6. Mark Sokolich

The Democratic mayor of Fort Lee didn't endorse Christie, a Republican. The lane closures were apparently political payback. The governor personally went to apologize to Skolitch. Christie has also apologized to the people of New Jersey.

The Boys and Girls Club of Newark seems like the last place you'd expect to find the daughter of hip hop royalty. But when it comes to inspiring young girls, Angela Simmons, daughter of Rev. Run of Run DMC, believes in the old adage "each one, teach one." While it may seem like she had a silver spoon in her mouth, she knows the importance of giving back.

Several beaches on the New Jersey and New York coastlines are open to visitors but closed to swimming because of high surf and dangerous rip currents. The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory and Rip Current Statement for the area beaches because of the effects of Hurricane Cristobal, which is expected to track south and east of the Jersey shore through Thursday.
