District of Columbia Police Chief Cathy Lanier says a police officer who died after being charged with child pornography last month appears to have committed suicide.

Lanier is discussing the arrests of Officers Marc Washington and Linwood Barnhill Jr. at a town hall-style meeting Thursday night.

Washington's body was pulled from the Washington Channel soon after he was released from custody. Lanier said all indications are that the death was a suicide.

Barnhill, a 24-year-veteran of the force, was arrested on charges of running a prostitution operation out of his apartment.

Both officers were from the department's seventh district, where Lanier spoke Thursday night.

She told the crowd that the department had uncovered no broader corruption within the district.
