ATLANTA -

The amazing story of a highly-touted football recruit whose NFL dreams were nearly derailed after being falsely accused of rape could be headed to a theater near you.

Brian Banks has signed a deal for a movie to be made about his life, TMZ Sports reports.

Banks was a former Southern Cal recruit who spent five years in prison after being convicted of rape and kidnapping charges 10 years ago.

After Banks was released, his accuser was caught on video recanting her story.  In an emotional return to court, Banks was at last exonerated on May 12, 2012.

Capping the incredible comeback, Banks signed with the Atlanta Falcons last year and played four preseason games before being cut.

TMZ Sports reports that Gidden Media has signed on to produce a full length feature film based on Banks' story.

It's not yet clear when the movie will be made.
