San Francisco, CA -

Seven years ago, on Jan. 9, 2007 at the Macworld convention in San Francisco, Apple's CEO, the late Steve Jobs unveiled a brand new product that he and the creators and engineers over at Apple had been developing for two-and-a-half years.

Jobs first introduced the device as if it were three separate products... a widescreen iPod with touch controls, a new design on the mobile phone and an Internet communications device.

As it turned out, this was not three devices...but a new three-in-one device. Jobs boasted that this new "iPhone" would "reinvent the phone" to massive applause from a packed house of businessmen, tech reporters and loyal fans.

Jobs boasted a revolutionary user interface, one that would take users away from having to use the small buttons on QWERTY keyboards on other smartphone devices, such as the BlackBerry.

When Jobs finally showed off the iPhone, the focus was the simplicity in its functionality…with touch being the main draw to its use. No small buttons, no stylus pen, no trackball or levers. You can make a call, check your e-mail, surf the web, listen to your tunes, look at pictures or even watch a movie.

Apple's iPhone is considered the flagship of the smartphone to this day. Jobs had once again redefined the consumer tech industry and thus propelled Apple to becoming one of the most popular and powerful consumer technology companies in the world.

I met the folks from Gunnar Optiks at CES this year and they had something new to show me. The Intercepts. I have a big head, these are big frames, it was kismet but do they work as good as they look? We'll see.
