4-year-old boy dies in Montgomery Village apartment fire

MONTGOMERY VILLAGE, Md. -

A 4-year-old boy has died in a two-alarm fire at an apartment complex in Montgomery Village.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue say the call for the fire at the Cider Mill Apartments on Lost Knife Circle came in at around 4:04 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators say the fire started in a second-floor apartment and spread to the third floor and the roof. 80 firefighters were dispatched to the scene of the blaze. Most of the fire was extinguished within 20 minutes after they arrived at the scene.

An adult male was rescued from a balcony at the complex. He is in extremely grave condition after suffering life-threatening injuries.

Another adult male was injured and transported to a local specialty center. Two children were taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

12 apartments were damaged in the fire and more than 40 residents have been displaced.

The fire has been ruled accidental. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
