Want To Feel Healthier? Consider 'Janopause'

If you had a little too much to drink over the holidays, you might want to take part in "Janopause."

"Janopause" is the swearing off alcohol for the entire month of January.

New research shows that giving up booze for just one month can improve a person's health. People who participated in the study lost around three pounds, cut blood glucose levels and lowered their cholesterol.

They also said they slept better and felt more alert.

The study looked at nine "normal" drinkers who abstained from drinking. Four others agreed to keep drinking to act as controls. They were each tested at the beginning and end of the study.

This study is not double blind, and the researchers also emphasize that a period of abstinence should not mean going crazy on alcohol for the rest of the year.
