Anne Arundel County Police have charged a man with leaving his 6-year-old grandson alone in a minivan at a mall parking lot.

Officers were called about 6:10 p.m. Thursday to Arundel Mills Mall in Hanover after a customer reported seeing the child alone in the vehicle.

Authorities say the minivan was covered with snow. The boy was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

Police say about 7:30 p.m. the boy's mother and grandfather arrived at the minivan. Officers say the grandfather drove the boy to the mall to pick up the boy's mother.

Forty-seven-year-old Juan Carlos Calva Diaz of Columbia has been charged with confined unattended child under 8 years old and neglect of a minor.

The child was released to his mother.
