Taking A Live Ride On Snow-Covered Philly Streets, Highways

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

It looks like most people out there are heeding the warnings and staying inside, if they can.

A couple of motorists are out braving the conditions, however. It is dangerous out there, and a little bit windy as well.

The speed limit has been reduced to 45 miles per hour on the area's main interstates.

FOX 29's Chris O'Connell was roaming throughout the city to show us firsthand the driving conditions, starting on Interstate 95 in South Philadelphia.

Conditions are deteriorating by the moment as the snow continues to fall. It is very slow-going. I-95 was basically snow-covered at 10 p.m., and some motorists were driving at 40 to 45 mph with their hazard lights on.

Plows have been through, but the snow just keeps coming on.

And these conditions will get worse as the night goes on.

O'Connell reported that he and his photographer had come across several spin-outs and fender-benders along I-95 South.

The snow started falling around 5:30 p.m. and had yet to let up yet when the FOX 29 News at 10 began. Almost immediately the roads were getting treacherous.

They saw PennDOD trucks up and down the interstate plowing and salting.

They also caught up with a couple people out and about including a snowplow driver who wasn't going to be getting any sleep Thursday night.

Later, our roving crew made its way to Aramingo Avenue in Frankford. You can watch both clips in the video player above.
