WASHINGTON -

Five people are recovering after being stabbed during a New Year's Eve celebration. It happened at “District” nightclub along 18th Street in Adams Morgan.

Police Chief Cathy Lanier ordered an emergency shutdown of the club for 96 hours. The Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration will decide whether to suspend or revoke their liquor license.

Around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, police got the call for an assault involving multiple victims. There were five people total, four men and a woman, all suffering stab wounds.

Officials say one of the men was attacked outside on the sidewalk by a male suspect. The rest of the victims were stabbed inside the club.

Investigators believe a woman may have been responsible for some of it, but it's not yet clear how many suspects there are.

None of the injuries were life-threatening.

So far, no arrests have been made.

Ward 1 Councilmember Jim Graham is concerned that some evidence may have been compromised before police arrived.

"They were cleaning up the blood. All of that is a crime scene and when you have a crime scene, you just stop, you leave everything where it was," said Graham.

He continued, "I think it's an ongoing police presence issue, and we have really beefed up police presence in Adams Morgan. It's also having bars understand their responsibilities in a situation like this and clearly they didn't.”

Statement sent to FOX 5 from lawyer on behalf of District nightclub:

"On behalf of the ownership and staff of "District", our hearts go out to those who were injured by the criminal acts committed early this morning. We would like to express deepest sympathy to the victims and their families and we wish them a speedy recovery. My clients would additionally like to express their support for the men and women of the MPD who are tasked with the responsibility of bringing the perpetrators of these crimes to justice. The partners and employees of "District" have and will continue to do everything in their power to cooperate with MPD in their investigation and ultimate apprehension of those responsible."
