CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A nine-year-old Chicago girl is spending a quiet New Year's Eve with her aunt celebrating an unforgettable end to 2013.

Alyssa Meza helped deliver her little sister on Sunday when her mom Monique went into labor, two weeks early.

"We were sitting down in my room and her water had just broken. But then she got up to go to the bathroom because she started feeling like the baby was coming out, so she's standing in the bathroom…I told her to push the baby out and I got the baby and I grabbed a towel and wrapped it up," Alyssa recalls.

However, when the baby, little Aaliyah, was still wrapped up in the umbilical cord.

Alyssa said with no time to call 911 she had to run to grab a neighbor for help.

"She told me that I could of cut it by myself but she said she would help me. She would grab the umbilical cord and I would cut it with the scissors and then I called 911," Alyssa said.

Paramedics came within minutes and so did Alyssa's aunt, who is proud to say she wasn't needed at all.

"I said wow," Samantha Meza said in response to her niece's actions. "I was just so amazed that she did a good job."

So here's to Alyssa and her little sister, Aaliyah Meza, who is a healthy 6 pounds, 15 ounces.

Early, yes, but just in time to ring in the New Year.
