State comptroller to include breakdown of state spending in tax return

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The state comptroller's office wants taxpayers to know where their dollars are going.

Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka said she'll include a breakdown of state spending, including unpaid bills, in next year's tax returns.

Topinka said the idea is to help residents, in her words, "follow the money."

The tax return insert will break down spending by every state agency, and direct taxpayers to websites where they can find even more details on local spending.
