Pope Francis Given Special Honor By Esquire

Posted: Updated:

The pope is probably not the first person who comes to mind when you think style and fashion.

However, Esquire Magazine named Pope Francis the best dressed man of 2013. The magazine says that choosing the pontiff is "unconventional," but it also says that his simple approach to dressing has sparked a new era for the Catholic Church.

"While Bradley Cooper, Chris Pine, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have all had banner years, their sartorial choices begin and end on the proverbial red carpet. Meanwhile, Pope Francis's sartorial decisions have subtly signaled a new era (and for many, renewed hope) for the Catholic Church," Max Berlinger of Esquire writes.

Pope Francis has been lauded for his emphasis on compassion and assisting the poor. He was named Time Magazine's person of the year earlier this month.
