SILVER SPRING, Md. -
A deadly head-on collision claimed the life of a Silver Spring teenager early Saturday morning. 18-year old Oscar Orellana was the front seat passenger in a red 2003 Infiniti G35.
Montgomery County Police say around 2:30 a.m., the car crossed the center line into opposing traffic along Old Columbia Pike, just north of New Hampshire Avenue, and slammed into a gray Chevy Tahoe.
The 19-year old driver and 23-year old rear seat passenger were taken to the hospital, along with the 25-year old driver of the Tahoe.
All three young men are recovering from non-life threatening injuries, but Orellana did not survive.
"I couldn't even believe it when they told me my nephew was dead," says Orellana's uncle, Jose Lozano. He says the teen had just passed the G.E.D. and had plans to attend college. "I want to get more closure to find out what really happened.
There is nothing i can do to bring my nephew back," says Lozano.
Investigators are looking at whether alcohol and seat belt usage may have been factors but the circumstances of the collision remain under investigation. No charges have been filed.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620. Callers may remain anonymous.
