Shoppers hit the stores to get last minute Christmas gifts

SILVER SPRING, Md. -

The is clock ticking as shoppers run out to get those last minute gifts.

"Normally I am early it's just one of those seasons!"exclaims Anderson Clay as he races into Kohl's early this morning.

Clay is not alone.

While many will get up early Christmas morning to see what Santa brought, today it was to shop.

"I couldn't sleep this morning so I thought let me go in and do this real quick," says James Lepinksky.

Stores are catering to shoppers even more this year as they stay open 24 hours a day ... In some cases for several days.

"It gives everyone the opportunity to get here so no excuses not to have a present" points out Lisa Alonso who is taking advantage of the overnight hours.

Amber and her 3 year old daughter were already at their second stop of the day when we caught up with them.

"Everything has been great. We've been lucky. I kind of think last minute shopping is the way to go. A lot of people rush out Black Friday. No man, day before!" says Amber Evans who was buying gifts for some unexpected guests.

Others agree, Paula Braglio goes shopping Christmas Eve every year.

"I thrive on that stress I love it!"

Retailers nationwide are counting on last minute shoppers especially after sales are down for the 3rd consecutive week. Some shops are nervous about the latest figures since they count on holiday sales for 40 percent of their annual sales.
