Warm temperatures in the 70s made for comfortable weekend of last minute Christmas shopping

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

The holiday spirit was alive and well in D.C. even if icicles and snowmen were out of the question.

The area welcomed winter with record-setting high temperatures that climbed into the low 70s.

Around the metro area, people enjoyed the brief, spring-like weather.

No chance of snowballs, but some footballs were tossed around on the National Mall.

In Georgetown, some brief rays of sunshine made the day even more surreal.

The last minute Christmas shopping rush was made all the more comfortable without the hats and gloves.
