(FOX 11 / CNS) A tour bus believed to have been speeding with 38 passengers aboard went into a small drainage ditch while exiting the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Baldwin Park this morning, trapping the occupants and injuring some of the passengers, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The accident occurred about 4:30 a.m. on the Baldwin Park Boulevard offramp from the westbound San Bernardino Freeway, said CHP Officer Christopher Cracraft. The bus was returning from the Fantasy Island Casino in Indio, according to the CHP.
The driver and 38 passengers were trapped inside the bus for about an hour, Craycraft said. About a dozen passengers suffered minor injuries.
The offramp was shut down so that the bus could be removed from the ditch, the CHP said. About 150 feet of chain link fence was pushed down by the bus, raising concern that pedestrians could gain access to the freeway.
Excessive speed is believed to have been the cause of the accident, according to CHP Officer Rodrigo Jimenez.
