Former Eagles Cheerleader Turned Army Lt. Honored At Lincoln Financial Field

Posted: Updated:

The Eagles honored one of their hometown heroes. It turns out it was really a homecoming of sorts as a former cheerleader comes back with an entirely different uniform.

Fresh off her second deployment from Afghanistan-1st Lt. Rachel Washburn is back home.

"It's great to be back I call Philadelphia home it's where my heart is and always will be and I'm a diehard Eagles fan," Washburn said.

She better be an eagles fan because this is the uniform she was wearing 3 years ago as a Philadelphia Eagle's cheerleader from 2007 to 2010.

Instead of carrying pom-poms she now packs and m-16. Nowadays Washburn serves as an Army Intelligent Platoon Leader. Before that on the army's cultural support team helping the military connect with Afghani women.

"Us understanding the culture was imperative for us. If we didn't understand that we wouldn't be able to create that bond that we needed to accomplish," Washburn said.

At 25 she's already had a decorated career, being awarded the bronze star medal and several others. She even helped deliver a baby in Afghanistan. Surprisingly Washburn says she actually drew from her cheering experience in her military career.

"There are some commonalities between them both are stressful and require you to remain composed under situations that make you a little uncomfortable," Washburn said.

Washburn made it again to the jumbotron, but this time in a much different uniform.

"You got any moves left in you? I might have a few I don't know if anyone's able to see them," Washburn said.
