ATLANTA -
Georgia Power crews spent most of the early morning hours Monday working to remove a downed tree at Old Alabama Road and Old Powder Springs Road. This was one of several trouble spots reported early Monday.

A powerful cold front moved through Georgia on Sunday bringing heavy rain and gusty winds. The thunderstorms are expected to stay over the state for most of the day Monday.

That cold front is expected to slam on its break and dump larges amounts of rain throughout the afternoon on Sunday.
Estimates from FOX 5's VIPIR Radar indicate that most of northwest Georgia has seen about 2 inches of rain so far from this system, with the total steadily increasing. A large area northwest of Interstate 85 has seen upwards 3 inches of rain.

A Flood Watch is posted until Monday morning with several flood warning popping up as some areas experience heavy localized rain.

STORM DAMAGE

Cobb County fire officials say two homes have sustained minor damage after being hit by lightning.

Denell Lee Boyd of the Cobb County Fire Department told the Marietta Daily Journal two houses in the western region of the county were struck by lightning early Sunday morning.

Boyd says lightning hit the front door of a home around 8 a.m. and caused a small fire that had been extinguished by the time emergency responders arrived on the scene.

Boyd said minutes after the first fire, authorities responded to another blaze in an attic that was liked to a second lightning strike.

There were no reported injuries.

Heavy rain also caused problems in Cherokee County. In Canton, officials had to close Bowling Park due to standing water.
