PGPD investigates Saturday morning homicide in Upper Marlboro

Posted: Updated:
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. - A house party turns violent in Prince George's County, Maryland.  Gunshots rang out shortly after midnight Saturday along North Marlton Avenue in Upper Marlboro.  About an hour later, the body of 19-year old Rashad Pinkney of Capitol Heights was found lying in the street.  He had been shot and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

No word on a motive, and the gunman remains on the loose, but neighbors say it all stemmed from the house party. "Maybe 8 to 9 gunshots went off.  We heard a car screeching off, then about 7 to 8 more shots," said James Weems who lives next door.

Following the shooting, police say hundreds of people from the house party poured into the street.

A 17-year old girl was arrested and is charged with assaulting an officer.  The officer was apparently working to control the crowd when police say, she pushed him breaking his leg and twisting his ankle.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact call the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit at 301-772-4925. Callers wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477), text "PGPD plus your message" to CRIMES (274637) on your cell phone or go to <> and submit a tip online. A reward of up to $25,000 is offered to anyone who provides information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.
