GA legislators push for vehicle breath analyzers in DUI cases

ATLANTA, Ga. -

The U.S. Transportation Secretary says he wants tougher requirements in all states for first time drunk drivers.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released guidelines Tuesday for states to use 'ignition interlock programs'.

The programs force drivers to blow into a breath analyzer. If they've been drinking, their cars won't start.

A couple of Georgia legislators are joining the push for ignition interlock devices. State Senator Donzella James and Representative Tom Rice have been named "legislative champions" by Mothers Against Drunk Diving. Both legislators have authored bills requiring the device.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving says it's important to plan ahead if you're attending holiday parties.

The group suggests making arrangements in advance for how you will get home.
