ALEXANDRIA, Va. -

Alexandria Police are stepping up efforts to find Ronald Kirby's killer. The well-known public figure served as the Director of Transportation for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOF).

On Tuesday, his wife of one year joined police and Kirby's colleagues at a news conference. Anne Haynes said, "I hope the public will support us."

The MWCOF teamed up with the Del Ray Business Foundation to establish the Ron Kirby Reward Fund. They have raised several thousand dollars and are asking community members to donate in hopes that a large reward could entice or encourage someone with information to come forward.

Kirby was found dead inside his home along Elm Street in Alexandria on November 11. He had been shot multiple times. According to investigators, there was no sign of forced entry and nothing was stolen from the home.

Police Chief Earl Cook says investigators believe Kirby's death was deliberate, but they have no suspect, so they are now expanding efforts to create a timeline leading up to his death.

Cook says Kirby was well traveled due to his role in the transportation industry and he is asking that anyone who spoke with or communicated with him in the weeks leading up to his death to contact police.

"Mr. Kirby had such a big footprint in this field across the country and nationally that he may have been in contact with people in his travels that we are not aware of, so that's why we are expanding what we're looking for in terms of information," said Chief Cook.

The tip line established by the Alexandria Police Department is (703) 746-4258.
