AAA: 2.9M Michigan residents plan holiday travel

Posted: Updated:

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) -- About 2.9 million Michigan residents are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home during the upcoming Christmas holiday period.

The estimate released Tuesday by AAA Michigan is from the auto club's latest travel survey. The number is on par with last year.

About 92 percent of Michigan travelers are expected to go by car, truck or van to destinations this year, and the rest will go by airplane, bus or train.

The year-end holiday period for travel is Dec. 21 to Jan. 1.
