ATLANTA -

Did you know it take people 20 minutes to realize they have left their wallet at home? But it only takes them four minutes to realize they have forgotten their smartphone.

So, does it make sense to pay for your gas, groceries, holiday shopping with your smartphone or with what is or is not in your wallet?

In some places you already can. Did you know that you can use your phone to purchase things from a vending machine? Or instead of getting your credit card out, you can just touch your phone to the credit card machine?

It is called Isis Mobile Wallet and with the right smartphone, not to mention the right credit cards, you can use your phone to make purchases at many leading retailers.

Isis is a partnership with Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. It mainly works with Android phones that have Near Field Communication or NFC. iPhone users would have to purchase as special case in order to use NFC, but you should check with your carrier on this first.

As for the places you can use it? FOX 5's Doug Evans has searched locations close to the FOX 5 Atlanta studios and there were dozens from restaurants, gas stations, groceries, pharmacies and even dry cleaners.

You can also store your loyalty cards on Isis.

But is it safe? Watch the full report from FOX 5's Doug Evans for that answer

What do you think about using your smartphone instead of case and credit cards at the register? Drop FOX 5's Doug Evans a line at facebook.com/DougEvansFOX5 or tweet @DougEvansFOX5
