Wounded Soldier Gets New, Free Home

Posted: Updated:

A wounded war veteran gets the keys to his new and free home. The nonprofit group "Homes for Heroes" built the sixteen hundred square foot home for Sergeant Brent Hernandez.

Hernandez was severely wounded when his vehicle crashed in Afghanistan in 2010. The crash killed four, and wounded sixteen other soldiers.

On Saturday the community helped welcome Hernandez and his family to their new place.

"I'm so overwhelmed. It's beautiful to see. I'm so excited. I'm so thankful. I feel so blessed right now." Hernandez said. "It looks like something out of a magazine."

Neighbors helped decorate and furnish the Hernandez home which came complete with a fully decorated Christmas tree.

Neighbor Phyllis Coble said every soldier that we have deserves everything that we can give them in this country,

"Thank you guys so much," Hernandez said.
