Morris Brown College's pathway out of bankruptcy

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Historic Morris Brown College which has lost students, accreditation and federal funding says it is climbing out of bankruptcy.

School officials Saturday announced that a bankruptcy court last month approved the outline of the school's bankruptcy plan, with a final hearing set for Dec. 20.

The plan includes the African Methodist Episcopal Church paying $7 million to buy out Morris Brown's biggest creditor.

It also calls for the sale of three pieces of property. The school's chief council Renardo Hicks said if the bankruptcy plan receives final approval, Morris Brown could be out of bankruptcy by the end of the year.
