Times Square security for Super Bowl week

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Think of it like this: the kind of security you see on New Year's Eve in Times Square -- picture that for a week.

Bill Daly of security consulting firm Control Risks says the NYPD will work with state and federal agencies -- New York and New Jersey state police, the FBI, Secret Service, and Homeland Security -- to make sure the Times Square area is safe before the big game.

Broadway from 33rd Street to 48th Street will become Super Bowl Boulevard. There will be entertainment, music, games, even a toboggan run between 40th Street and 41st Street.

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said police, including counter-terrorism teams, will be out in force. You can expect NYPD Hercules teams, K-9 units, uniformed and undercover officers, radiation detectors, and more.

This will be incoming Commissioner Bill Bratton's first big test before the big game.

At this point it's unclear what kind of restrictions will be in place on people coming in and out of the area, such as bag checks, pat downs, that kind of thing.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
