Why making a list around the holidays can help manage your stress

If you're stressed this holiday season with the baking, the shopping and the gathering, one simple trick you can do starting right now will help take away the stress.

What is it?

Dr. Robert Lagrou, a psychiatrist at Henry Ford Kingswood Hospital, says grab a pen and some paper - and make a list!

"Specifically, a to-do list," he says. "We're going to write down all the things we need to do, the big things. We're going to include ourselves on that list because we need to make sure we're exercising, staying healthy and making sure we're not drinking too much. We're going to rank them from the most important things that we absolutely have to get done to maybe the things we don't want to do or things that can wait until the last minute."

He says this helps with stress because it organizes it and puts it into perspective for you, and it also can be a stress reliever to see something get checked off the list which promotes getting the other things done, too.
