Va. elementary school students learning to write computer code

FAIRFAX, Va. -

Most of us have played a video game. But would you know how to create one? Some kids who haven't even made it out of elementary school yet are learning.

Fairfax County's Daniels Run Elementary School participated this week in a program called Hour of Code.

"I realized right away that it aligned with all of our school values: critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, collaboration, preparing kids for the 21st century. And I knew we had to jump into it," says principal Adam Erbrecht, who heard about it from a parent at the school.

It is sponsored by an organization called Code.org. The group works to educate young people about computer coding.
