Twitter Senior Manager Looks Back At Top 2013 Tweets

Posted: Updated:

Now that the year is almost over, here are some of the top Twitter trends of 2013. Senior Manager at Twitter, Rachel Horowitz, revealed the top trenders.

Lea Michele's tweet of her and Cory after his death was the most retweeted tweet. It hit more than 408,266 retweets at its peak.

"Glee fans have been active on Twitter for years, so I think that they retweeted this tweet to show their support. They sent the tweet around the world," Horowitz said.

When Paul Walker died, the confirmation of his death was also one of the most retweeted tweets.

"I think these unexpected moments and these losses …Twitter is a place where fans can gather. It's public and it's real time, so this conversation around these things takes off," said Horowitz.

One Direction is very popular on Twitter. More than 367,000 fans retweeted One Direction's Niall Horan's birthday.

Some of the other biggest tweets included the Boston Marathon bombing, the Nelson Mandela death and Pope Francis. Super Bowl every year is huge too, according to Horowitz.
