Joe Manganiello: I Had To Get Obstacles Clear To Move Forward

Posted: Updated:

When it comes to getting the perfect body, True Blood's Joe Manganiello says most people are their own worst enemy.

And nobody knows this better than Joe.  Before he became the face -- really the body -- of modern fitness, he was a 185-pound junior-high weakling who couldn't do a single pull up. (And Good Day LA has the photos, in case you don't believe us.)

Today, the 6-foot-5, 230-pound beefcake is sinking his teeth into juicy roles on stage -- as Stanley Kowalski in "A Streetcar Named Desire" -- and screen --a male stripper in "Magic Mike" -- and he can thank his rock-hard body.

Now, Joe is ready to share his tips on getting ripped, with a new book called "Evolution: The Cutting Edge Guide to Breaking Down Mental Walls and Building the Body You've Always Wanted."

"Most people think they're working out really hard, but when I see them at the gym, they're lazy!" Joe told the NY Daily News.  "They're on the phone, they're mindlessly pedaling, and so they're just getting middle-of-the-road results."

Joe joins Tony Potts and Lisa Breckenridge on Good Day L.A.

Fun Facts About Joe Manganiello: (Source: Wikipedia)

1) He is an American film and theatre actor. He holds a BFA in acting from the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama. He played Flash Thompson in the original Spider-Man film series, and played recurring roles in television on ER, How I Met Your Mother and One Tree Hill, before landing his breakout role as werewolf Alcide Herveaux on the HBO television series True Blood for which he has garnered both popular and critical praise.

2) In 2011, Manganiello was voted "Favorite Pop-Culture Werewolf of All Time" by the readers of Entertainment Weekly.

3) He has since split his time between True Blood and feature films such as the Steven Soderbergh-directed Magic Mike and the film What to Expect When You're Expecting. Aside from his work in film and television, Manganiello is active with several charities including Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and the Los Angeles-based "The Art of Elysium."

Joe will sign copies of his book Tuesday night at 7:00pm at the Barnes and Noble at the Grove.
