VIDEO: Suspects sought in CVS armed robbery on Thanksgiving

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

The sun was barely up on Thanksgiving before two brazen suspects decided to rob the CVS store at 500 12th Street in Southeast D.C. The whole crime was caught on tape.

The suspects were wearing ski masks when they stormed in with weapons drawn. They headed into the business office and stole all the money they could get their hands on. The two managers in the office at the time weren't hurt.

"It's a little unnerving. There have been some other robberies. And I've heard of people on the street getting stuck up," Lauren Davis said.

People who live and work in the area say crime is spiking here. An Exxon gas station a block away from the CVS was robbed two days ago.

"It's more women leaving their purses on the seat of their car while they're pumping gas and someone snatches it. But then two days ago the actual gas station was robbed too," said Fabienne McLaughlin.

Police are hoping someone in the store's surveillance video looks familiar and you’ll give them a call. In the meantime, neighbors are ramping up their personal protection.

"I try to make sure I don't have my earphones in, and if it's late, I'll take a cab. I try not to be out by myself," McLaughlin said.

Other neighbors would like to be more patrols in the area, but crime really gets out of control there.

"We used to have a police officer who was always walking around checking on things, but I haven't seen him in a while," Davis said. "I think we'd all like to see more of a police presence.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
