CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

The driver of a pickup that was struck by a Metra train Thursday morning in northwest suburban Fox River Grove suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The truck was eastbound on Northwest Highway when it turned right on Lincoln Avenue, where the train crossing is located, according to Fox River Grove police.

The 47-year-old driver was unable to stop, and the truck struck the train crossing gate and was hit by the train, which was slowing as it pulled into the station at 11:12 a.m., according to Fox River Grove Deputy Fire Chief Jim Kreher.

The man was extricated from the pickup by firefighters and taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with non-life-threatening injuries, Kreher said. No one on the train was injured.

The train that hit the pickup, Union Pacific/Northwest Line No. 642, is running nearly an hour late after the crash, according to Metra's website.

Outbound train No. 613, which was not involved, is running 20 minutes behind schedule, according to Metra.
