Chris Carter: There's Always Something New About The Beatles

Posted: Updated:

"I learn stuff every week..."

Most if not all fans of The Beatles in L.A. know Chris Carter. He hosts ‘Breakfast With The Beatles' every Sunday morning from nine to noon on KLOS website. This Sunday is the 30th Anniversary show. Carter talked about hosting the show and all the guests that have been on to talk about The Fab Four, including the band members themselves.

"Having The Beatles call in is of course a plus...just to have The Beatles know your name is a fun thing...believe it or not, even though they're the most successful entertainers in the world, they still need you when their record comes out. Ringo makes a new record, Paul makes a new record, and they know we're here for them so it's a good little give and take."

So who are some of his favorite guests that have been on?

"Donovan was a really great guest because he kinda sings when he talks....Peter Asher, fantastic guest because his sister Jane Asher was dating Paul McCartney in the height of Beatlemania and Paul moved into the Asher's house. So here's this guy, Peter Asher, sharing a bathroom with Paul McCartney...so his stories are first-hand you know."

Chris also talked about the show's listeners and how they're truly a dedicated bunch.

"When you do a specialty show like we do...you get all the hardcore Beatle fans, and we do all these personal appearances...and that's where you really get to meet your listeners and like you say you meet all kinds, you always get questions, people are always inquiring about this that or the other thing."

Tony and Lisa also talked about social media and speculated how much bigger The Beatles would be with instant fan interaction like Twitter and Facebook. Chris says even without those things, they were still bigger than virtually every other act that came before them, and after them.

"None of that existed in the day. Everything was word of mouth and The Beatles stopped touring in 1966 so they weren't out promoting Sgt. Pepper and the White Album and the Abbey Road album so that's even more credibility for those guys because they weren't out there, you know, playing live."

"Breakfast With The Beatles" airs Sundays from 9 to noon on KLOS.

Here's Chris getting an answer to a fab four trivia question from someone who's definitely an authority.

Fun facts about Chris (Source: Wikipedia)

1.) Chris is a Los Angeles-based disc jockey and music/film producer who started his music he career as a founding member and bass player with alternative rock/power pop band Dramarama. After Dramarama originally split in 1994, Carter formed QM Management to manage LA pop group The Wondermints, currently best known as Beach Boy Brian Wilson's touring backing band. Until September 2006, KLSX aired Carter's Breakfast with the Beatles, America's longest-running Beatles-based radio show, on which he played almost nothing but Beatles material and commented upon the history of the group for as long as four hours every week. In November 2006, the show moved to its new Los Angeles home, KLOS-FM, which bills itself as "L.A.'s Only Classic Rock Station Since 1969," and can be heard every Sunday from 8 am to 11 am. In September 2008, Carter started a new version of Breakfast with the Beatles for Sirius XM Satellite Radio, which can currently be heard every Sunday (9AM-noon ET repeating again at Midnight ET) on the Underground Garage channel, airing on both Sirius 21 and XM 21. In December 2008, Breakfast with the Beatles debuted its new web site at breakfastwiththebeatles.com.

2.) As a producer, Carter supervised and produced the music for the film Mayor of the Sunset Strip, a rock documentary about influential Los Angeles disc jockey Rodney Bingenheimer of KROQ-FM. In 2003, the film won "Best Documentary" in the Santa Barbara Film Festival, and was nominated for Best Documentary by the Independent Spirit Awards.

'Breakfast With The Beatles' can be heard on line every Sunday morning 9 to noon at KLOS.com.
