SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

The air is cold and dry, and can be very damaging to your skin. If you suffer from dry skin in the winter months, Dr. Youn shares these proactive steps to keep your skin hydrated.

First, make sure your home as a humidifier. If your home has one already installed to its furnace, make sure the setting is changed to winter rather than summer. If not, purchase a humidifier for your bedroom and run it while you sleep at night.

Second, apply moisturizer while your hands are still moist after a shower or bath. This helps trap the moisture in.

Third, not all moisturizers are created equal. Separate moisturizers should be used for your hands and for your face.

For more information, and to find out which moisturizers are right for you, click the video player to watch Dr. Youn's in studio interview.
