PERTH AMBOY, N.J. (AP) - An investigation into the fatal police shooting of a Perth Amboy man has determined that it was the man's mother who initially called police and that in her call she described him as violent.

In the 911 phone call Wednesday the mother of 32-year-old Dixon Rodriguez also said she was refusing to give him his medication because it was harmful to him.

The new details were released Friday by Middlesex County's acting prosecutor, Andrew Carey.

As the officers talked to Rodriguez outside his home, the prosecutor says the man raised his right arm with a knife in his hand, then punched the female officer in the head and tackled her to the ground.

Both officers then fired at him.

The prosecutor says a knife with a five-inch blade was recovered.
