Wintry weather around the country causing airport troubles in DC

Posted: Updated:

American Airlines cancelled 1,400 flights to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, including several from Reagan National and Dulles Airports because of the bad weather gripping that part of the country.

An airline spokesman says it will take some time to reschedule all the passengers.

By 6:30 p.m. Friday, things improved and travelers like Regina Mbah were able to fly out of Reagan National to take care of a sick relative.

"I feel lucky," Mbah says.

So does Tariq Farooq. He wants to play in the snow with his four kids. This wintry weather is rare treat for them.

"I haven't seen snow like this in years," he said after looking at a text of a snowy scene at home.

Some students from the Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville were nearly stranded in D.C. after a field trip here.

"We just got a plane to Indianapolis and our parents will have to drive two hours to come get us," says Madie Clements says.

Airport officials urge travelers to call their airline before heading out.
