Weekend Roundup: Reebok Spartan Race, UFC's Rich Franklin & Sumo USA

Posted: Updated:

FOX 11's food and fun expert Mar Yvette searches the Los Angeles area for some of the best places to eat, drink, shop and have a great time. Featured guests then swarm our FOX Television Center parking lot every Thursday morning between 9am and 10am on Good Day LA, creating a big party as one jam-packed segment known as the Weekend Roundup!

Here's more information about the guests we featured:

Reebok Spartan Race

Not all obstacle races are created equal and the Reebok Spartan Race aims to surprise you at every turn. The 3+ mile race features more than 15 obstacles from traversing walls and throwing spears to rope climbing, hobie hop and yes, a gladiator pit and plenty of mud. The event takes place on Saturday, December 7 at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu and is open for all ages, all sizes and all fitness levels. The goal is simple ... to get you off the couch, throw you in the mud and challenge you with a day that will be the adrenalin rush of your life!

UFC Champ Rich Franklin

If you really want to eat like a champion, check out Ze/Lin Organic Juice & Fusion Cafe in Beverly Hills. Co-founded by three-time UFC champion Rich Franklin, this is not your ordinary juice shop. Ze/Lin features cold-press juices, organic smoothies like Hale the Kale and Beet the Blues, acai bowls, elixirs and all-natural vegan & gluten-free pastries and incorporates unique minerals like shilajit, reishi, camu camu and sacha inchi. Even better, Franklin supports at-risk youth through Ze/Lin by teaming up with the Sunburst Youth Challenge Academy and hiring graduates from their program.

Sumo USA

Watch out, it's a sumo-nami this week in LA!! World sumo champs Yama (the heaviest Japanese human in history at 600 lbs) and four-time winner Byamba just competed yesterday at the new Yoshinoya in Los Angeles, to see who could set the record for most beef bowls consumed in 15 minutes. Yama ate 7 beef bowls and Byamba ate 5 beef bowls. To commemorate the event, Yoshinoya America President Dar Vasseghi is presenting the award. You can see Byamba, Yama, and other sumo wrestlers training this Saturday, December 7 at 3:30pm in Van Nuys. Go to usasumo.com for more details.
